To be fair I never said I was "offended", Yoshio did. I don't get "offended".
Okay, okay, so who wants to touch me?

I never actually made "Super Jonas Brothers 3", it was actually a joke post. Just to be clear on that.
Most underrated and overrated RPGs
brandon come on, I don't think he really meant that the Thomas the Tank Engine and Hannah Montannah games have violence in them. Actually I'm not sure what his post was saying but I don't think he was being that serious.
At first I thought this was a dumb post, but I thought about it more, and I guess if someone actually didn't like the majority of games they played, then they must be either a) very unlucky or b) not terribly big fans of video games. I guess if someone just sampled every game before they bought it, that problem could be remedied. Thankfully I pretty much only buy SNES games nowadays so I can always get the rom if I want to sample it (I'm a big console-phile, I hate playing games on emulators, and no I don't have a particular stance on copyright law and its jurisdiction over emulation/etc)
I agree. I hate people saying stuff like 'JUST PLAYED X GAME PRETTY DISAPPOINTING' or 'X GAME IS PRETTY TERRIBLE' on a regular basis. I mean, if you can't get any enjoyment out of most of the games you play and you're constantly let down with a cynical attitude, then perhaps its time to find another hobby.

Calling it "profanity" implies a bias. It isn't objective to automatically classify those words as profane when they're intrinsically no different from any other word with the same meaning that society hasn't arbitrarily classified as a "swear word". There's no intrinsic difference between "shit" and "excrement", and I doubt you'd say excrement counts as profanity. And if you would, well, at least you're being consistent.
I'm pretty sure there's something similar to Godwin's law regarding people in forums quoting dictionary.com to prove a point, but I'll do it anyway:
The first four are obviously absurd; you can't classify any word as inherently "unholy" or anything like that. If you mean profane just as in vulgar, again I think that implies a bias.
I think that the people who generalize all people who swear as uncreative and inarticulate warrant this criticism far more than I do.

1. characterized by irreverence or contempt for God or sacred principles or things; irreligious.
2. not devoted to holy or religious purposes; unconsecrated; secular (opposed to sacred ).
3. unholy; heathen; pagan: profane rites.
4. not initiated into religious rites or mysteries, as persons.
5. common or vulgar.

It's not what you're saying, Cop Killa. It's how you're saying it. Your posts come off sounding awfully high and mighty, and that's what you're being called on.

Good job missing the point buddy.
I was talking about YOU, not the writer(this is why I omitted that part of the text maybe????). I've never read his stuff and I don't know if I ever will.
I don't care if people disagree with my point of view, I was simply calling you out on your condescending attitude.
So, to be brief:
1-brandon says "writers who swear aren't creative"
2-I mention Harold Pinter, who won the nobel prize for literature (the highest honour for any writer), who swears in his work; therefore, brandon doesn't know what he's talking about.
3-I tell brandon that if he doesn't know what he's talking about, he shouldn't post, because most of what he says is likely to be uninformed.
What exactly is wrong with what I said? If it's true, shouldn't that absolve me for being "condescending"? Is anyone who proves anyone else wrong being condescending?
It's pretty amusing actually that you have no problem telling me I'm being condescending when the people in the "swearz are bad" camp seem to think they have some all-knowing crystal ball, which tells them that swearing in writing is automatically bad, without any real justification (literally, none). If anything I'm being the most permissive because I'm not saying people MUST USE SWEAR WORDS, I'm just saying that they're an acceptable means of an expression in literature, whereas brandon is the one pretentious enough to make a massive generalization about what's good for literature and what isn't.

I guess then all I can say to you is that maybe the games that "put you off" just aren't meant for you? I understand that standards exist in writing and so it's fair game if you want to criticize the overuse of certain words (why swears are held to some higher standard in this regard is a mystery to me), but I find it unlikely that someone just stuck "motherfucking cunt" in some dialogue for no reason. It's possible, I guess I'd have to see it in context, so this is kind of a wash.
My only real problem with what you're saying now I guess is that it seems you're singling out swear words when your criticism could equally be extended to the overuse of any word. Either way what you're saying is more or less reasonable so I'll just make fun of Karsuman now:
???
Are you saying that nobel prize winning writers don't know when to use certain language in writing? I gave you an example of a writer who won the nobel prize for literature who used profanity frequently in his writing. I'm not saying I know better how to use profanity than the average person, I'm saying he does. How can you even disagree with that?

post=98783Don't talk about things that you know very little of.This is just as presumptions.
Should we treat you as a higher order of being on the subject of effective use of profanity now?

Fixing the way RM2k words things?
Just make a game where absurd robotic language is acceptable, or make a game that's a parody of poorly localized RPG's, or whatever. Kinda make the problems with the RPG Maker work for you, y'know.
